As of the Fall of 2019, 37,000 people were waiting for a long-term care bed in Ontario, according to the Ministry of Long Term Care. This number is increasing as we face a continuing global pandemic that, according to recently released data, has seen upwards of 80% of coronavirus deaths occurring in long-term care.
Concerns remain about the safety of Ontario’s care homes, and with the likelihood of there being a second wave of the pandemic in the near future, families are left facing a difficult decision. With openings becoming available and new admissions being allowed, those with loved ones at the top of the long-term care waiting list are understandably reconsidering the move.
